Edward H. Persing

Edward H. Persing, age 97, passed away Sunday, May 02, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls. Ed was born August 27, 1912 in Varina, IA to James and Mary (Schott) Persing. He grew up in the Milbank, Montrose and Dell Rapids areas attending country schools. He married Marcella Sechser on October 22, 1941 in Sioux Falls. He was a farmer and a carpenter his entire life. He was a Charter Member of the Wayne Township Fire Department and was until the department was dissolved. He was a long standing member of St. Joseph's Cathedral. Survivors include his wife Marcella, Sioux Falls; son Paul (Jeanne) Persing, Sioux Falls, SD; two step-grandchildren, Karli (Andy) Baker, Parker, CO and Troy Grovenburg, Arlington, SD: two step-great grandchildren, Travis (Kristin) Baker, Aurora, CO and Sam Baker, Parker, CO: three brothers Lawrence (Florence) Persing, Sioux Falls: John (Ardelle) Persing, Sioux Falls and Virgil (Mary) Columbia Height, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Helen Koopman, Laura Shepherd, Irene Herden, and Louise Thiner and six brothers, Francis, Leo, Bernard, George, Charles and Dick Persing. Visitation will be Tuesday, 5 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a Scripture Vigil at 7 PM followed by the Rosary. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Cathedral.
