Monica Mary Hennings

Monica was born in Sioux Falls, SD, on Nov. 17, 1935, to Bernard and Helen Kapperman. She grew up in Hartford, SD, where she received her education. Graduating from Hartford High School in 1954, she was a proud member of the cheerleading squad. Following high school, Monica attended college at Mount Marty in Yankton, SD.

On June 1, 1957, she married Maynard Hennings in Hartford, and they made their home in Sioux Falls, where they raised their five children. Their life together was full of love, faithfulness and fun.

Monica had a mind for numbers and worked as a bookkeeper for Fantels department store and John Morrell (Smithfield) in Sioux Falls. She became a tax preparer, working for H&R Block for a number of years before she began preparing tax returns out of her home; and then eventually working for Citibank for 10 years, retiring in 1998.

Monica loved to sew. She spent many hours and used yards and yards of fabric sewing her children’s clothing and then turned to quilting as her hobby, making beautiful quilts for family and friends. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years and loved camping. And who can forget her pies, the best! She enjoyed playing a good hand of cards, which she could be very competitive, “or whatever.”

Above all she loved her family. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. There were a lot of family vacations and camping adventures.Monica loved when the family was together. She was young at heart and loved to go to activities her children or grandchildren participated in.

Her loving family includes her children: Terri (Wayne) Pease, Mark (Debbie) Hennings, Mary (Jim) Frank, Pam (Jay) Titus, and Nancy (Mark)Haugen; her grandchildren: Erin, Nathan, Josh, Nick, Kayla, Katie, Ben, Kelsey, Brianna, Rylee, Tanner, Seth, Luke and Ryan; her great-grandchildren: DJ, Addison, Emmet, Charlotte, Audrey, Jonah, Kaden, Nolan, Everly, Carter, Hunter, Harper, Elijah, Claire, Malachi, Isla, Josie.

Monica was member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Sioux Falls, where she was a member of the Cathedral Club and Quilting Club. She cherished her church family and all the friendships that were made.
