Vivien Ann Norris
05-12-2025

Vivien Ann Norris passed away in her home on May 12, 2025 at the age of 70. Vivien was born on May 30, 1954 in Canton, SD, the daughter of Harry and Lilly (Wiese) Claussen. Vivien grew up in Elkton, SD, one of seven children. She graduated from Elkton High School in 1972.

Vivien was united in marriage to Curtis Stahl on March 16, 1973. They divorced in 1992. Vivien later married Roger Norris, and the two were married for five years. She spent the last 27 years with her partner, Dennis Monen, in Larchwood, IA.

Vivien worked in various fields, but her specialty was cooking. She worked for restaurants and nursing homes and took pride in providing good meals to customers and residents. During a short stay at the hospital and rehab, the food provided was amongst her highest complaints. She had been out of the work force for the past 20 years and enjoyed keeping tabs on everyone via Facebook, often sharing her political commentary. She was often the first person to comment or share congratulations to someone online.

Vivien battled alcoholism much of her life. Though her choices often conflicted with the wishes of those around her, she always had ownership in her choices, good or bad. She owned her faults and accepted the faults of those around her. Her acceptance of others was a significant attribute. Her relationship with the Lord helped her with this acceptance and her faith brought her peace at the end of her life.

Vivien is survived by her long-time partner: Dennis Monen; and her four children: Loren (Jen) Stahl of Sioux Falls, Lenny Stahl (Tami Drew) of Dell Rapids, Christina Evans (Kris Linneman) of Yankton, and Jennifer (Kyle) Anderson of Baltic. She had ten grandchildren: Caitlen Evans, Karissa and Kaden Linneman, Dominick and Trystan Hintz-Stahl, Carter and Brianna Stahl, and Abigail, Jacob and Benjamin Anderson; her siblings: Susan Stahl, Helen (Kevin) Grooters, Carol (Roger) Berndt, Kent (Linda) Claussen, and Marlo (Sharron) Claussen. She is preceded in death by her parents, her ex-husband Curtis Stahl, brother Lee Claussen, brother-in-law Gerald Stahl, and nephew Kristopher Grooters.

A Memorial Service will be Monday, May 19, 10:00 AM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home.
