Yvonne Lee Shields
04-03-2026

Yvonne Lee Shields, born May 11, 1934, lived a life defined by love, devotion to family, faith, and a joyful spirit that touched everyone she met.

Yvonne graduated from the South Dakota Beauty Academy and began her career as a hairdresser, a profession that allowed her to connect with people and brighten their days. Later, she became an entrepreneur, co-founding Service Master that eventually turned into Shields Cleaning Service. Through her hard work and dedication, she built a business with her husband, while continuing to care deeply for her family and community.

One of the most cherished moments in Yvonne’s life happened at the Moonlight Manor Roller Rink, where she met the love of her life, James Joseph “Jim” Shields. The two were married on November 29, 1955, beginning a loving partnership that lasted a lifetime. Together they built a home filled with laughter and raised four children: Kim, RJ, Steve, and Becky.

Yvonne was deeply devoted to her church and was active in many church activities throughout her life. Her faith guided her and was reflected in the kindness and generosity she showed to others. She was also very much apart of the Sioux Falls VA, being a veteran herself, she volunteered her time to help other veterans in need.

She had a creative and industrious spirit and loved working with her hands. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, and gardening. She found joy in creating beautiful things for the people she loved. Yvonne also loved to gather friends and family, often hosting game nights where card games, laughter, and conversation filled the room.

Yvonne and Jim shared a passion for travel and adventure. Together they explored the world, visiting places such as England, Russia, Germany, Alaska, and many other destinations they dreamed of seeing. Their travels created countless cherished memories.

Above all, Yvonne was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was loved by everyone who knew her and had a special gift for lighting up a room with her warmth, humor, and vibrant personality. She loved bright colors, and her joyful spirit brought brightness to the lives of those around her.

Yvonne’s legacy of love, faith, creativity, and kindness will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Yvonne is preceded in death by her parents, Erma and Raymond, her sons, R.J. and Steven, and her beloved husband, Jim. She leaves behind her legacy and loving family including her daughters: Kim and Becky; and adopted son: Iver; grandchildren: Shawntel (Steve), Michael (Amber), Stephy (Julie), Shavon (Shawn), Maria, Brandy, and Robert; great-grandchildren Lucas, Keira, Jordyn, Mason, James, Jordan, Abigail, Xavier, Syennah, Gage, and Blyane; and a great-great-grand child: Samuel.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 8, 9:30 AM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a Funeral Service at 10:30 AM.
