Robert J. Murray

Robert “Bob” Murray was born November 9, 1959 in Lincoln, Nebraska to William and Rose Murray. The family later moved to Omaha, NE before settling in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where Bob attended St. Joseph’s Cathedral for grade school and Washington High School.

Bob worked for over 35 years in various roles at Sioux Steel in Sioux Falls, however, his primary vocation throughout life was spent caring for his parents. Bob would often serve as chauffeur, ensuring that Bill and Rose were able to get to their various appointments, grocery stores, family sporting events, and mass each week.

A lifelong parishioner of Cathedral Catholic Church, Bob was a generally quiet spirit who enjoyed sharing stories filled with laughter when he was in the comfort of close friends and family. He had a passion for classic cars and found joy caring for his 1964 Plymouth Satellite as well as his 1964 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.

His passion for cars extended beyond the garage as he cheered on regional racers. The highlight of his year was often attending the Knoxville Nationals Sprint Car Championship alongside family and friends.

Bob invested considerable time and energy supporting his nephews through various sporting competitions, band performances, and other activities. There was always excitement when “uncle Bob” showed up at an event or spoiled the boys with a new Nintendo game or die cast car for their collection.

Bob was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed.

Grateful for sharing his life are his sisters: Therese (Jim) Berg of Sioux Falls, Katie (Paul) Dylla of Arizona City, Arizona, Mary (Bryan) Anson of Watertown, SD, and Janelle Kott of Sioux Falls; his brother: Chris Murray of Sioux Falls; nephews: Jared (Amanda) Berg, Jon (Abbi) Berg, and Jackson Dylla; and their children: Asher, Jonah, Connor, Micah, Eli, and Brea Berg. Robert is preceded in death by his father, William (Bill); mother, Rosie; and his brother, William (Billy) Murray.

Visitation will be Sunday September 13, 6:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:30 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home. A Private Family Funeral Service will be Monday, September 14, 10:00 AM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home.
