Troy David Thompson
12-09-2020

Troy David Thompson, 52 was born January 7, 1968. He died of natural causes December 9, 2020. Troy was born in Sioux Falls, SD to Harley and Elaine (Bruhn) Thompson. He was raised in Sioux Falls where he graduated from Washington High School in 1986.

Troy demonstrated many talents as he navigated life to find his career calling. He worked as a welder, fiberglass tank fabricator, and mechanic. He later became known for installing ceramic tile and leveraged this talent to become a licensed contractor and owner of Perfect Vision Construction.

Troy lived life on his own terms with no regret. He enjoyed attending concerts and movies with friends. He was known for his quirky humor. When he wasn’t making people laugh, he was sharing his time volunteering for the MS Society “Bike MS” rides. He made many rides logging hundreds of miles on his bicycles in several states. He also made sure to do the mall walk every year.

Troy loved his family. Since their births, grandchildren had become the focus of his affection. He loved to play with them whenever he had the chance. He used his woodworking talent and knowledge of cars to build three Soap Box Derby cars; one for each grandchild. Dressing up for Halloween and taking them Trick-or-Treating always was the best day ever! He loved to visit his grand kids and bring them “special treasures".

Grateful for having shared his life are his mother: Elaine Thompson (Bruhn); daughters: Kelsey Thompson and Somer Thompson (Mike Haines); brother: Todd (Brenda) Thompson; sister: Kim (James) Roby,  twin sister: Teri (Tim) Katzenberger; grandchildren: Tracen Graves, Marissa and Oakley Haines; godfather: DeWayne Bennett; aunts: and uncles: Julie (Robert Jr) Thompson, Donna (Bob) Bray, Kathy (Dave) Myers, Debbie (Phil) Peterson; cousins: Huette, Chris, Joanna, Matthew, Sean, and Josh, and extended family: Tia Strom, Tanner Clay and Jon Graves

His love for children extended to his many nieces and nephews: Derek and Garrett Thompson, Brittney, Mackenzie, and Nicholas Roby, Lindsay Hayen, Mitchell (Ashley) Hayen, and great-nieces and great-nephews: Damon Hayen-Patzloff, Jacob Hayen, Bridget Jo, Camden and Connor Hayen, and Sawyer Roby; and a great-great niece: Olivia Hayen.

He was preceded in death by his father: Harley Thompson; grandparents: Louella and Robert Thompson, and Georgianna and Robert Bruhn; uncles: Larry, Robert Thompson Jr, and his two dogs Rimshot and Kevin.

A celebration of Troy’s life will be scheduled later when friends and family can gather safely.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 15, 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be limited to family and close friends Friday December 18, 10:00 AM at the Cathedral of St. Joseph.
