Rebecca Sue Minier
03-14-2021

Rebecca Sue Minier, 66, passed away March 14, 2021. Becky was born in 1954 in Florence, Colorado to George and Betty Minier. She was the 7th of 8 children born in this union, though two infants did not long survive.

Becky enjoyed many things in life with her quick wit, keen sense of humor, and readiness to play any kind of game, including Jumbles in the daily paper. Puns were a favorite activity and were liberally sprinkled in ordinary conversations with her. A belief in God and a higher order of spiritual life was infused throughout her time on earth as she explored churches, the Bible, and divine discussions with clergy at Bible studies.  She went to Washington High School in Sioux Falls after attending elementary school in Sturgis, South Dakota and Middle School in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

After high school, Becky moved to Portland, Oregon where she developed a life-long love of the sea, mountains, and dear friends and colleagues at the hospital where she was employed. She enjoyed travel adventures with friends – a trip to Mexico one year, an Alaskan cruise, and then a daring flight in a small plane over the Grand Canyon in a visit to the southwest. We are all grateful for the Minier Reunion she organized at a seaside cottage to bring family together from the four corners of the country. She enjoyed having her parents nearby after they moved to be near her in Portland. Later when they moved back to Sioux Falls, she followed along and worked for several years with a financial services company.

Becky’s last years were spent with her beloved cat Bella, her church friends and apartment neighbors, and weekly Skypes with her sisters, Dianne Metli and Kathy Laate (Sioux Falls), and Judy Minier (Florida). Her dear friends Gloria Henning and Paige Feddema, also mourn her passing. Two brothers, Bill Minier and George Minier reside in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Her parents preceded her in death.  Several cousins, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews survive her.

Memorials can be sent to the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society at 3720 East Benson Road, 57104. Becky was a kind, generous and loving soul and is greatly missed by all those who knew her.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 24, 5:00 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a Memorial Service at 6:00 PM.
