Mary Elaine Coyne

Mary Elaine Coyne, 79, passed away May 11, 2021 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. She was born February 9, 1942 in Sioux Falls to Pauline Mae (Javers) and George Edward Aurit. Mary graduated from Sioux Falls Washington High School. She was united in  marriage to Thomas Emmett Coyne November 11, 1961 and was blessed with three children.

Mary worked ten years as a switchboard operator at the Argus Leader.  She was a homemaker, crafter, and volunteered in numerous places at the Avera Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Above all, Mary was dedicated to her Catholic faith. Her faith and generosity served her well in life, with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Grateful to have shared her life are her husband: Tom, of 59 years;  3 children: Scott (Mary) Coyne of Sioux Falls, SD, Kevin Coyne of Sioux Falls, SD, and Kelli (Scott) Zylstra of Rock Valley, Iowa; 5 grandchildren: Andrea (Rob) Miller, Sean (Kiley) Coyne, Christopher (Megan) Zylstra, Michael Zylstra, and Nicholas Zylstra; 2 great-grandchildren: Oliver Coyne and Mason Zylstra; 3 brothers: Dale (Joyce) Aurit of Sioux Falls, SD, Paul (Elaine) Aurit, Maple Grove, MN, and Joe Aurit of Sioux Falls, SD; 5 sisters: Shirley Miller of Sioux Falls, SD, Jeanette Johnson of Gilbert, AZ, Audrey Tetrick of Las Cruces, NM, Lynn Burns, Mesa, AZ, and Connie (Chet) Swanson, Rochester, MN; and 29 nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, brother: George Aurit; sister: Agnes Wrich: and brothers-in-law: Mitchell Wrich, David Burns, and Roger Tetrick.

Visitation will be Monday, May 17, 5:30 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a Scripture Vigil and Rosary at 6:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, May 18, 10:00 AM at the Cathedral of St. Joseph. Masks are requested but not required.
