John J. Adams

John J. Adams, 89, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls. John was born on October 14, 1918 to John and Ellen (Ryan) Adams in Sioux Falls. John attended Sioux Falls schools. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Hassing on September 25, 1943 in Sioux Falls. He owned and operated John Adams Trucking and Excavating for 30 years. After retiring, he worked at McCrossan Boys Ranch for 15 years. John was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church and a former member of St. Joseph Cathedral. He was also a member of the DAV and the Dakota Bandits Square Dance Club. He and his wife enjoyed camping. John is survived by his wife of 65 years: Dorothy; children: John, Sioux Falls, SD, David (Yvonne), Newton, AL, Dollie Stansbury (special friend: Terry Stoakes) and Jerry, Sioux Falls, SD; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, 10 AM at St. Joseph Cathedral with burial to follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
