Harriet Boyd
07-13-2021

Harriet Boyd, age 95, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 in Sioux Falls, SD. Harriet Hope Helen was born in Sioux Falls, SD to Catherine (Tummitt) and Dr. Edward Heinz on April 14, 1926.

She grew up in Sioux Falls where she graduated from Cathedral High School. Harriet was united in marriage on February 4, 1948 to WWII Navy Sailor Charles Boyd.

During her early years of marriage, Harriet worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as an Operator and Service Assistant. As her family grew, she focused on them and their scholastic and community activities. She was active in the Girl Scout and Boy Scout programs, active in church and school endeavors and active in the world around her. Once her children became more independent, she went to work for the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Memorial Hospital in their Admissions department where she worked for 22 years until retirement in 1993. Then, in 2004, she took a job as a sales executive for a costume shop owned by her niece. She was a good manager, creative, efficient and productive.

Harriet had a full life, a productive life, a creative life and a fun life. She loved golfing, baking, sewing, antiquing and gardening. She was a good example of one who had appreciation and respect for the past...yet recognized the excitement and opportunity of the future.

Oh, and as a side note, Harriet will forever be remembered as the neighbor lady with the well stocked candy drawer readily available to everyone. God Bless her.

Harriet is survived by daughters: Mary Lorraine ("Lori") Rasmussen (Rick), Doniphan, NE, Catherine Stahl (Jeff), Sioux Falls, SD; and son: Stephen Boyd Sioux Falls, SD; six grandchildren: Nick (Christine) Boisen, Rosemount, MN, Amanda (Alex) O'Rourke, Healy, KS, Elizabeth Hahn, Sioux Falls, SD, Anna Stahl, Denver, CO, Emily (Zyenom) Kas, Sioux Falls, SD, Rebecca (Alex) Pound, Sioux Falls, SD; thirteen great-grandchildren: Landon, Cody, Lola, and Bennett Boisen, Teagan and Hudson Feely and Teghan and Terence O'Rourke, William and Claire Hahn, Zaila and Amira Kas and Maya Hope Pound.
