Joseph "Joe" Block-Woods
11-15-2021

Joseph (Joe) William Woods (Block), age 32 passed away November 15, 2021 in Sioux Falls, SD after a long battle with depression. Joe was born November 21, 1988 to Deb and Bill Block. A twin sister would follow just a minute thereafter, joining their older brother.

Joe received his K-12 education in his hometown of Menno, SD. Throughout those years, he excelled in the arts, taking the lead role in plays, singing the National Anthem, and participating in numerous vocal and instrumental contests.

Joe’s love of music followed him his entire life. He pursued music education with a piano scholarship after High School at the University of South Dakota. While attending he continued sharing his talents with those around him. Joe had a special ear for music and would perform most piano selections entirely from memory. Joe would then pursue another passion of his with technology by graduation from Southeast Technical institute with an I.T. Degree. ,

Joe spent the last decade plus in eye care, most recently at Ophthalmology LTD. He was extremely knowledgeable and kind, serving  as a mentor to everyone. He had an incredible relationship with the doctors, his coworkers, and patients during his time there.

Joe had a heart he wore on his sleeve, an infectious laugh, a diva mentality, and one of the most beautiful smiles. He cared deeply for his husband, family, friends, co-workers, cats, and fellow brothers and sisters of the LGBTQ community. He also possessed quick-wit and truly made the world a better place to live in.

Despite Joe’s beautiful exterior, he struggled with depression. His dying wish is for anyone who is struggling to reach out for the help they need, but also for humanity to do their part as well.

Joe is survived by his husband: Jamye Woods; two cats: Cher & Beeje Woods; parents: Deb & Bill Block; older brother: Jeremy (Rosey) Block; twin sister: Jessica Block; mother-in-law: Jackie Harris; sister-in-law: Kayla (Cora) Harris; grandmother: Mary Ann Gall; uncles: Greg (Rita) Gall, Gene (Penny) Gall, and Nolan Seim; aunts: Joyce Sunderland, Cindy (Brad) Nichols, & Christina Block; cousins: Kori (Justin) Dejong, Maggie (Danny) Kohles, Kyle (Kate) Gall, Tesia (Dylan) Nichols, Tanner Sharpe, Taylor (Steve) Sharpe-Bloch, Samantha Gall, & Grace Gall; nieces: Ripley Block & Annika Harris; and special friends Brandi Lenzen & Dylan Houge. He was preceded in death by his grandfather: Reuben Gall; cousins: Brooke & Dana Gall; uncles: Rusty Sunderland, Gene & Jerry Block; aunts: Linda Seim & Sandra Renke n; Father-in-law Michael Harris; and Grandmother-in-law Kay Sturzenbecher.

Joe wants to keep his spirit alive by continuously showing love to those in your life.

Visitation will be Friday, November 19, 2021 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM with family and friends at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be Saturday, November 20, 10:30 AM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home.
