Renee Lynn Vermillion

Renee Lynn Vermillion, 66 years 9 months 29 days, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away Monday January 17, 2022 peacefully, surrounded by family at Sanford Medical Center. This being the 20 year anniversary of her daughter Tiffany’s heavenly birthday.

Renee was born March 19, 1955 in Sioux Falls, SD; a daughter of the late William and Vivian Broshears. Renee attended school in Sioux Falls graduating from Washington Senior High School in 1973. During that time Renee made many lifelong friends including falling in love with her other half Kenneth A. Vermillion Jr. and married him on December 29, 1972. Their marriage created three daughters, Sonja, Tara, and Tiffany.

Throughout Renee’s life she worked a handful of jobs. In 1989, she began her career at Citibank and continued that work for the duration of her life. All while holding the domestic engineer role for her husband, daughters and beloved dogs. During her career she made many friends that she shared many life events, sorrows, and joys.

As the years passed Renee went on many adventures. From family trips in the motorhome, to music concerts, their daughter’s many activities ranging from marching band, choir concerts, and softball and basketball games. In the last decade, many of her trips included attending the Thunder basketball team competitive tournaments and their grandson’s dirt track races. Most recently she started doing more of her favorite hobbies that involved crafting, holiday decorations, and stock piling supplies in preparation of future projects.

Giving to others, was something Renee found immense joy in. Whether that was her time as a listening ear, giving gifts to her loved ones, or providing emotional, financial and parental support to the many girls that came through the Thunder basketball organization. Renee will forever be known as a kind, compassionate, and courageous woman.

Renee is survived by her dearest husband: Kenneth A. Vermillion Jr.; her daughters: Sonja Vermillion (Steven Heirigs), Tara Brady (Donald, Jr.); grandsons: Beckett and Donavon Brady, all of Sioux Falls, SD; her siblings: Marshall (Linda) Broshears of Sioux Falls SD, Janell (Jerrold) Haensel of Montrose, SD and Janean (Gerald) Burke of Sioux Falls, SD; 12 nieces and nephews; 12 great-nieces and nephews; and her beloved dogs Minnie, Wicket, Mabel, and Milo. In addition to her parents, Renee is preceded in death by her darling daughter Tiffany Vermillion, beloved nephew Andrew Vermillion, in-laws Kenneth and Luella Vermillion; aunt: A. LaVonne Lawrence; and cherished dogs: Chewy, Shadow, Missy, and Skittles.

To honor Renee’s wishes, the family requests casual attire.

Visitation will be Friday, January 21, 5:00 PM - 8:00 Pm at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a time of sharing at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 22, 10:30 AM at St. Michael Parish.
