John H. Fleming

John H. Fleming, 94, passed away Sunday March 23, 2009 at Dow Rummel Village. John was born on November 7, 1914 in Sioux Falls to William and Mary Fleming. John graduated from Cathedral High School in Sioux Falls in 1933. He married Eleanor Bryson in 1937. He served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946 on U.S.S. LSVN 465 and was discharged on January 4, 1946. John owned and operated Fleming Insurance and Real Estate. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW, American Legion, Elks Club, Westward Ho County Club and Elmwood Golf Course. He was Chairman of the Catholic High School Basketball Tournament in the 1960's and served as Chairman at Westward Ho County Club. He was proud of his Irish Heritage, and enjoyed all sports, especially golf. He is survived by his daughter Patty (Dick) Seiler, Des Moines, Iowa, sons, John (Joanne ) Fleming, Sioux Falls, Tom (Pat) Fleming, Sioux Falls, Steve (Julie) Fleming, Sioux Falls, 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor and daughter Mary. Visitation will be Thursday, 5 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a Scripture Vigil at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, 10:30 AM at St. Mary Church with burial to follow at St. Michael Cemetery with Full Military Rites by Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #628.
