William "Joe" Monahan

William (Joe) Monahan passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009 at his home. A celebration of life is planned for Wednesday, May 6, 2009, 10:30 AM at Holy Spirit Church, Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 5, 2009, 5 PM at Holy Sprit Church with a Scripture Vigil at 7 PM. Joe Monahan was born in Omaha, NE on September 12, 1963. His professional trade was carpenter, currently self employed. Joe had a successful islet cells transplant, May of 2008. He was an active member of Al-Anon for many years and was a mentor for many members. Joe was united in marriage to Kathy Monahan February 16, 1991 in Omaha, NE. Together they have 3 children and 4 grand children. Joe was very friendly to everyone and was a compassionate guy towards the needs of others. He loved to visit and make you laugh. Usually, he would tell you "glad you got to see me!" He was a big kid at heart. He especially enjoyed his pets. You could never have too many pets; he would have enjoyed living on the farm. Joe was very community minded and would lend a hand to anyone who needed his help. He loved NASCAR, bike riding, card playing and being with his family. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife: Kathy; his daughter: Molly Monahan; his step-children Dillion King & wife, Melanie King, Omaha and Chelsea & husband, Kenny Lantgen, Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren: Charles King, Allison, Emilee and Elizabeth Lantgen; parents: Bill and Betty Monahan, Omaha, NE; grandparents: Rita and Jim Wiese, Sioux Falls, SD; sister: Teresa Murphy & husband Dave, Omaha NE; sister: Lora Burke & husband Dan, Omaha NE; brother: Kevin Monahan & wife Kris, Omaha, NE; sister-in-law: Charlene Myers, Sioux Falls, SD, Pam Strohfus, Boise, ID; brother-in-law: Ron Burke & wife, Brenda, Danvers, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
