Harold Schwartz 12-14-2023
Harold Schwartz, a driven entrepreneur and family man, passed away on December 14, 2023, at Sanford Hospital at the age of 81. Harold was born August 26, 1942 to Christ and Lydia (Streyle) Schwartz, in Steele, ND. He moved to Fargo, ND where he met and married Colleen Brenden. Later, they moved to Minot, ND, before taking their final adventure to Sioux Falls, SD in 1971. This is where he made a lasting impact on the community through various business ventures.
He was the force behind businesses like Village Inn Pizza, KarmelKorn, the New Town Mall (now Empire East), and a thriving strip mall. But it was his carwash, initially called Harold's Carwash and later known as K&H Carwash, that became a hallmark of his legacy, reflecting his commitment to quality service.
Beyond his work, Harold found joy in tending to his farm, looking after his horses, and playing rounds of golf as well as spending time with close friends including Gail Fisher, Jim Foster, and Jim Wells. He cherished these moments of peace away from the bustle of business life.
Harold is now reunited with his parents, Christ and Lydia, his brother Albert, and his sisters, Marcella, Ida, Ruby, Gladys, and Sharon. He leaves behind his sisters Delores and Betty; and brother Ron. He is also survived by Colleen Schwartz (Brenden), and their five children: Sherri Dirksen, Kevin (Jana) Schwartz, Michael (Amy) Schwartz, Steve (Shawntel) Schwartz, and Hal Schwartz. His memory lives on through his grandchildren: Stacy (Josh) Fisher, Kate McKenna, Nikki (Adam) Dirksen, Austin Schwartz, Jacob Schwartz, Jordyn Schwartz, Brooke Schwartz, and Mason Schwartz, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Harold's life will be held on Thursday, December 21 from 5pm-8pm at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, SD. Harold leaves behind a legacy of hard work and resilience.
