Nancy Ann Clarey
12-16-2023

Nancy Ann (Kramer) Clarey, 71, passed away December 16, 2023. She was born September 5th, 1952 to Clifford and Euphemia (Warborg) Kramer of Alvord, Iowa. Nancy was raised on the family farm and attended Alvord Public School in her elementary grades.

From junior high through high school she attended West Lyon Community school, graduating in 1970. Nancy went to Briar college in Sioux City, Iowa earning her B.A. in 1974. After graduation she began a 20 year career in the Fort Dodge Catholic School system, first as a teacher, then as a principal upon earning her M.A..

In 1994, she moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to become the principal at St. Joseph Cathedral school. In 1997, after a renewed romance she married Patrick Clarey. 1997 was a year of many changes for Nancy, She married Pat, bought their home and she became principal of Christ The King School. After she had retired from being a Principal, but not yet ready to stop working with children, she taught at Holy Spirit School for several years. Upon retiring from formal education she was a tutor for Silvan.

Her Catholic faith was an undercurrent to her whole life; as was seen in her graciousness and generosity to her students, family, friends and all who knew her. She had a steadfast trust in Jesus that was marked by an unwavering fidelity to the church.

She was an avid fan of Elvis Presley and all things red. She loved to read and watch old movies with Pat. She loved being with family especially with the little ones.

Nancy is survived by her step sons: Nate and Adam Clarey, Sioux City, Iowa, and her siblings: Denny (Karon) Kramer, Sioux Falls, Joe (Dorie) Kramer, Alvord, Iowa, Kathie (Mike) Clarey, Bridgewater, SD, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends She was preceded in death by her husband: Pat; parents: Cliff and Euphemie Kramer; her brothers: Jerry Kramer and Bill Kramer. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests Mass offerings as memorials. 

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 26, 5:00 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a Scripture Vigil at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, December 27, 10:00 AM at the Cathedral of St. Joseph.
