David LeRoy Monen
12-20-2023

David Leroy Monen, 66, son of Ervin and Regina Monen (Buckneburg), passed away December 20, 2023. He was born February 20, 1957 in Sioux Falls at Sioux Valley Hospital. He grew up in Sioux Falls and traveled the states and eventually came back to what would be his home of Klondike, Iowa.

He made a career of being a skilled carpenter that knew how to keep cars running with his mechanical skills while having the dream of sharing his musical talents with more than just friends and family. His construction and carpentry skills can still be seen standing in the Sioux Falls area with those that worked with him being able to recognize the mark of his tradesman skill. The wisdom he gained in his handyman expertise he was one to be a mentor to those that would want to grow their own skills Mechanical and carpentry to gardening. He would entertain his family and friends with his humor and the flourish of his guitars to further the happiness he brought to others. A humble pious man with a steadfast belief in his Christian faith.

He loved the outdoors and would share that by getting friends and family together at various countryside points around the region. If the meet up happened to be at a lake, he would share the fruits of his labor by bringing his boat for all to enjoy. He had a green thumb, which shown with how he brought forth life from the earth with his botany and him enjoying what he'd grow. He found joy in being at the local racetracks where the sprint cars would roar and watching NASCAR.

He was happy to share his life with his immediate family: Mariel (Dreyer), Daryl, Darlene, Dennis, and the youngest Dalas Monen. That family grew to include the Dreyers, Buckneburgs, Sieverts, and that of his significant other of 34 years Collette and her four boys. All of which grew to great numbers with all having a love for David Monen and the happiness he brought to all of their lives. David was preceded in death by his parents: Ervin and Regina; and his sister Mariel.

Visitation will be Friday, December 29, 2023, 10:00 AM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM.
