Gary Lee Livermont 04-16-2024
Gary Livermont 70, from Sioux Falls South Dakota passed peacefully on April 19, 2024 at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls, Sioux Falls South Dakota. Gary was born on July 21, 1953, in Mobridge, South Dakota, to Charles and Anna (Greff) Livermont.
Gary attended elementary and junior high school in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. He attended his freshman year in Wheatridge, Colorado and finished his last three years at Stephan High School, now Crow Creek Indian High School in Stephan, South Dakota. After graduating high school, Gary pursued an art degree and briefly attended Mankato College in Minnesota.
After leaving Mankato College, he joined the United States Army. His basic training was completed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was stationed in Germany as a military police officer and was honorably discharged. Gary worked as a Deputy Sheriff in Montrose, South Dakota but left to work as a Security Guard for the South Dakota Penitentiary in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Gary spent over 25 years working for the South Dakota Department of Social Services before he retired. Gary took pride in working to assist families to obtain their court ordered child support.
Gary had two loves: sports and collecting memorabilia. He loved bowling and golf. He was so happy to retire because he knew it would give him more time to pursue these passions. He bowled in several leagues and played as many golf courses as possible. He had a great group of golf buddies. This group would pick players for tournaments and compete to see who played the best. We’re sure he did well in those tournaments. He also loved and enjoyed watching sports on TV. His favorite teams were the Buffalo Bills and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He had quite a collection of Buffalo Bill memorabilia. He always wanted them to win the Super Bowl. Gary had a sense of humor and told the best jokes and make everyone laugh.
His memorabilia collection included: jerseys, western movies, CDs, shot glasses, bobble heads, cards, golf balls, shirts, and bolo ties. He enjoyed going to thrift stores to add to his collections. It was a true passion of his. He kept lists of thrift items to search for on behalf of his friends. It kept him happy and busy.
Gary is survived by his siblings: Donald Livermont (Anna Marie) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Charlotte Burcin, of Bellefonte PA, Frances Sieler, of Alamogordo, NM, Robert Livermont, of Oxnard, California and twin sister: Mary Geersema, of Spearfish, South Dakota. He also had many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Gary was preceded in death by two brothers: Richard and Jerry; two brothers-in-law: Dale Sieler and Reginald (Reggie) Geersema; and two sisters-in-law: Mary Ann Livermont (Feiock), and Belva Livermont (Riter).
