Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 21 at Christ The King Catholic Church in Sioux Falls. Visitation with family present will begin at 6:00 PM on Monday with a 7:00 PM Scripture Vigil at Christ The King Catholic Church in Sioux Falls.

Richard Rotert was born March 22, 1941 in Salem SD to Bernard and Mary (Hoff) Rotert. He grew up in Salem, SD and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. He attended USD and moved to Sioux Falls where he lived the remainder of his life. Richard worked at Sioux Steel for several years and finished his career in a variety of sales positions.

Richard was diagnosed with polio at age 11. While polio may have limited his mobility throughout his life, it did not stop him from always being on the go. He attended any event his grandkids were involved in. He loved spending time with his family and his love language generally involved food. Richard could often be found in the lobby of his apartment where he acted as the resident social coordinator. Richard’s love of the Green Bay Packers was obvious to everyone but he had a general love of all sports and was usually watching a game.

Richard is survived by his son, Rich (Kelli) Rotert of Timnath, CO, son, Dan (Sherri) Rotert of Sioux Falls; daughter, Karen (Andreas) Baumann of Ada, MI, daughter, Laurie Rotert of Sioux Falls, son Joe (Betsy) Weber of Sioux Falls, 8 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren; siblings, Juanita Lauer of Salem, Vince Rotert of Sioux Falls, Jerome (Betty) Rotert of Huron, Carol Sabers of Sioux Falls, a sister-in-law, Vivian Rotert of Ft. Dodge, IA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Rosie Rotert, Gene (Gloria) Rotert, Ralph Rotert, Bernice (Dan) Cronin, Leroy (Janet) Rotert and in-laws, Don Lauer, Lyle Sabers and Leanne Rotert.
