Margaret Helder 06-24-2009
Margaret Beyer was born April 8, 1915 in Sioux Falls SD. She attended Cathedral Grade School and High School, and graduated in 1933. She also attended St. Joseph Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1936. As a registered Nurse she worked in Iowa, Kansas, and South Dakota. She served as a member of the Regular Army Nurse Corp from 1940-45 and in the Reserve Corp until 1950. She was a Chief Nurse in Alaska and a Captain Chief Nurse on the Aleutian Islands. She served on the staff of the V.A. Hospital from 1946-52 and on the Good Samaritan staff in Canton, SD from 1971-81
She married Donald Helder on September 9, 1952 and resided in Canton until 1979 when they moved to Sioux Falls.
She was a member of Christ the King Parish in Sioux Falls and a member of St. Anthony Guild and Catholic Daughters of America.
Those grateful for sharing her life are her husband: Donald W. Helder; her sons and their wives: Bill and Vicki Arnold, Gary and Randi Helder, and Steve and Shannon Helder. Also her grandchildren Dawn Myers and her children Alexandra and James; Elizabeth and Jay Swann and their children Isaiah and Jaidyn; Tiffany Arnold and her daughter Jacie; Tyson Helder; Kyle Helder; Stacy Helder; and Carly Helder; many nieces, nephews and family members … and especially caring nieces Judy Sheldon and Joan Kub.
Her loved ones that preceded her in death are her parents Fred and Nell Beyer, her sisters and their husbands Elsie and Joe Halligan and Agnes and Clayton Peterson.
Visitation will be Friday, 5 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a Scripture Vigil at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, 10:30 AM at Christ the King Church with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery with Full Military Rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #628.
