Derric Smith Miller

Derric Smith Miller, 54, left us September10, 2024. He is the son of William and Catherine (Smith) Miller.

Derric was born in Sioux Falls, S.D. on July 26, 1970. He attended school in Sioux Falls. He graduated from South Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Derric was a writer of horror. He had books published along with co-writer Mark Allen. He was an editor for an internet magazine, Hard Rock Haven. He was an avid fan of rock music. He attended numerous rock concerts and was welcomed backstage to interview those bands. He had friends all over the world. He loved Da Bears and tennis.

Derric always had a wild imagination even as a child. Once, while playing in the snow, he fell into a snowbank. He came into the house to berate me for not saving him. I asked him how he got out of the snowbank. He told me that he had turned into a frog and hopped out.

Derric is survived by his children: Lauren and Nolan Miller in MN; mother: Catherine Miller, Sioux Falls; siblings: Dominic Miller (Debbie) in Sioux Falls, Antoinette Miller (Lane Smalley) in Sioux Falls, Sophia Miller and Christian Swanson in Sioux Falls. He has nieces, a nephew, and numerous extended family.   He was preceded in death by his father, William Miller.

Public Visitation will be Saturday, September 14, 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home.
