Robert Allan Natz “Bob” 06-13-2026
Robert Allan Natz “Bob”, 92, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away on June 13, 2026. He was born on August 19, 1933, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Bob attended Cathedral High school where he met the love of his life Betty Hauk they married shortly after graduation in June 1955 and celebrated 61 years of marriage until Betty’s passing Nov. 2016.
Bob was a kindhearted and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose life was shaped by love of family, curiosity, creativity, and a quiet generosity of spirit. He found joy in a round of golf, cheering for the Cubs, thoughtful political conversations, and music of nearly every kind—especially jazz.
An avid book collector, Bob had a lifelong thirst for knowledge that carried him across subjects ranging from philosophy to mechanics. He also loved building, flying, and working with his hands, spending years constructing his own fixed-wing airplane until he was eventually grounded by his doctor. His fascination with classic cars led him to restore several vehicles over the years, including an MGB and a Volvo P1800. Those who knew Bob often spoke of his gentle nature, his empathy for others, and his mind that was always alive with ideas and new projects.
In many ways, Bob’s life reflected a rare blend of intellect, craftsmanship, humility, and heart. Whether he was immersed in a book, working through the details of a mechanical project, enjoying music, or spending time with those he loved, he approached life with patience, thoughtfulness, and genuine interest.
His family will remember him not only for the things he built and accomplished, but for the steady presence, kindness, and wisdom he shared throughout his life.
Bob began his career exploring various fields working for Northern States Power Co. and Spitznagle Architects before finding his lifelong path that married his talents in the Visual Arts. He opened his own Graphic Arts Studio in the mid 70’s which later became NATZ/NATZ in 1989. He enjoyed a long career with many successes including publishing several books and magazines which included his work.
Robert is survived by his sons, Michael Natz (Noemi) of Fresno, CA, Stephen Natz (Julie Miller) of Sioux Falls, and Robert Natz (Julie) of Sioux Falls; three grandchildren, Christopher Natz (Shaun) of Sioux Falls, Alexander Natz (Kandace) and Elliott Natz (Kelsey Phillips) of Missoula, MT; three great-grandchildren, Hadley, Harper, and Henry, of Missoula, MT; and his brothers, Bill Natz of San Jose, CA, and Daryl (Kit) and Marilyn Natz of Minneapolis, MN.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, father Christian Natz; his mother, Orpha Natz; his sisters, Eunice Zerfas, Lois Zerfas, and Zita Brandenburg; and his eldest brother, Cletus Natz.
Visitation will be held on Monday June 22, at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM. The Committal service for Bob will be on Tuesday June 23 at St Michael Cemetery at 1PM.
Bob’s life was marked by devotion to family, quiet generosity, curiosity, creativity, and a steady kindness that touched those around him. He will be remembered with deep love by his family and friends, and his legacy will live on in the stories, lessons, and memories shared by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Bob be remembered through a simple act of kindness, a thoughtful conversation, or a gift to a charity meaningful to you in his honor.
