Mary Elizabeth Hemauer-Hover 10-21-2009
Mary Elizabeth Hemauer-Hoover, died Wednesday October 21, 2009 at the age of 100, at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Mary was born to Nicholas and Kathryn (Puhalla) Burggraff on December 7, 1908 in Hartford, South Dakota. She moved with her family as an infant to a Farm 3 miles east of Sioux Falls.
Mary lived there until she married Jacob Hemauer in Sioux Falls on May 14, 1935. During World War II, 1942-1946, she worked in Kaiser Shipyards in Vancouver, Washington.
After returning to Sioux Falls, she was employed by American Legion, Fenn Bros., State Welfare, and the Frosty Treat Drive-In. Mary was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Altar Society, and The Catholic Daughters of the Americas. After her Husband Jake died in 1980, she married Lloyd Hoover in 1982. He preceded her in death in 1984.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Janet Van Loh Sioux Falls, SD. and Mary Benson, Montevideo, MN. 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren . She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, sister Clara Deruytter, step-son, Ike Hoover, grand daughter, Julie Ann Van Loh, son-in-law, Pete Benson, great-grand daughter, Jessica Benson and grand son-in-law, Chuck Novak.
Visitation will begin at 4 PM Sunday at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a Scripture Vigil at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Interment will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, Madison, SD. An on-line registry is available at barnett-lewisfuneralhome.com.
