Shirley Mae Czerny

Shirley Mae Czerny, 81, died Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at Sunnycrest Retirement Village in Sioux Falls, SD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Christ the King Church at 1:30 PM on Saturday, October 2. 2010. Burial Service will be at Hills of Rest Cemetery following the Mass. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home in Sioux Falls prior to a scripture and rosary service at 7:00 PM on Friday, October 1, 2010. Shirley Mae Chevalier was born October 19, 1928 to Sylvia and Oliver Chevalier in Benson, Minnesota. She attended and graduated from the Minnesota School for the Deaf. She married Kenneth Czerny on March 20, 1953. Shirley was an active member of the deaf and hard of hearing community and supported many organizations throughout her life. She was a member of the South Dakota Association of the Deaf, Sioux Falls Association of the Deaf, Deaf Catholic Bible Study and South Dakota Association of Deaf Senior Citizens. Shirley will be especially remembered for her dedication to family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Tim Chevalier, Denver, CO, Monica (Benjamin) Soukup, Sioux Falls, SD, Pat Czerny, Rapid City, SD, Linda (John) Heinz, Alexandria, SD, 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, three sisters, Muriel (Pete) Bright, Cyrus, MN, Rita (Joe) Quinn, Bloomington, MN, Elaine (John) Carruth, Danvers, MN, one sister in law, Janice Chevalier, DeGraff, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, her parents and her brother Gary.
