Wilda Y. Howell 11-17-2010
Wilda Y. Hahn was born on March 30, 1914 at Aurora, South Dakota to Nels and Mary (Clarke) Hahn. She passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.
Wilda grew up and received her education in Moody County, South Dakota. She married Edward T. Howell on June 30, 1937 at St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church in Brookings, South Dakota. They resided in Moody County, Sioux Falls and Brookings over the years while they raised their family. She was a homemaker and worked as a nursing assistant at United Retirement Center in Brookings and Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls until her retirement.
Wilda enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower garden and was well known for her gifts of home-made peanut brittle at Christmas.
She is survived by two sons: Edward A. (Terry), Santa Rosa, CA and Richard R. of Sioux Falls, SD; two daughters: Sheree (Rog) McCollar, Sioux Falls, SD and Yvonne (Morris) Friedrichsen, Muscatine, IA; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one infant great-grandson, two brothers and two sisters. All are invited for fellowship and luncheon following the Mass in the church hall.
Visitation will be Thursday, 4 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a family led Rosary at 6:30 PM followed by a Scripture Vigil at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, 11 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
