Daniel Marion Wheeler

Daniel Marion Wheeler, 77, passed away March 2, 2011 at Southridge Health Care in Sioux Falls. Dan was born November 13, 1933 to Leo and Florence (Gustaf) Wheeler in Montrose, SD. He grew up in the Montrose area and graduated from Montrose High School in 1952. He served in the military in the Korean War and returned to South Dakota where he went to work at Morrell's for over thirty years. Upon retirement, he worked at the Super Wash on East 26th Street for several years. Dan was a talented baseball player, an avid bowler and a fan of the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings. He was united in marriage to Martha Beckman in November of 1961. They had one son, Doug. Martha passed away in the fall of 1962. He married Pat Benner in 1967 and they had one son, Daniel Jr. in 1968. Dan is survived by sons Doug (Patty) Wheeler, Ida Grove, IA and Dan (Cheryl) Wheeler, Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren: Austin, Brianna and Seth Wheeler, Zach and Jessie Walker; two brothers: James (Mary) Wheeler, Sioux Falls, SD and William (Kathy) Wheeler, Sequim, WA; and a sister-in-law: Bonnie Wheeler, St. Paul, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Martha and two brothers, Robert and Patrick. Visitation will be Sunday, 5-8 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Monday, 10:30 AM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home.
