Helen Davis-Schutz

Helen Loretta Davis-Schutz, age 67, passed away on August 10th, 2011 at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, SD, surrounded by her loving family. Helen was born on October 6th, 1943 to Hanson & Grace (Hayford) Davis. She attended a rural school in the Millboro area and later married Harvey Lewis in 1960. To this union 2 children were born: Loretta, who died in infancy, and Donald Dale. Harvey & Helen adopted 16-month-old twins, Galen & Gay, to complete their family. Helen moved to Minnesota in the early 80's, where she met Norbert Schutz. They were married in 1984 and spent the next 18 years of their life together in southwest Minnesota. Norbert & Helen then moved to Colorado Springs, CO due to health issues. As Helen's health deteriorated, they decided to move to Sioux Falls, SD to be closer to family. Helen was very social and never met a stranger. She loved to play cards and dominoes, and she attended every family reunion she could. She enjoyed ceramics in her younger years and later, when her health kept her home, she spent her time on the Internet playing games and chatting with her family and friends on a daily basis. Most precious to Helen, however, were her children and grandchildren, whom she loved with all her heart. Helen is survived by her husband Norbert of 28 years; her children: Galen (Nancy) Lewis of Winner, SD and Gay (Roger) Eisfeld of Slayton, MN; siblings: Bertha Zweifel of Rapid City, SD, Lue (Stan) Hanson and Charles (Susan) of Millboro, SD, Cecil (Carol) of Moorhead, MN, and Jim of Clarkson, NE; 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, & her constant companion, her little dog Angel. Helen was preceded in death by Loretta (infant daughter), Donald (son), Hanson & Grace (parents), and Duane and Berniece (siblings). Visitation will be 12 PM Saturday with a Memorial Service at 1 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home.
