Louis Wilson

Louis E. Wilson, 72 passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 12th, 2011 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Louis (Louie) was born in Beresford, S.D. on June 27th, 1939. He was the first and only son of Louis and Mabel Wilson. Louie graduated from Beresford High School in 1957. He attended college at South Dakota State and the University of South Dakota before joining the military in 1961. Louis married Marjorie Fitzgerald in 1961. Louis served his country for two years in Germany as a member of the Military Police with the U.S. Army. He was discharged in 1963 and moved to Sioux Falls to reunite with his wife and young son. Louis would continue to serve his country but in a different capacity. He spent the next 18 years as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He loved his job but loved the interaction with people even more. Louie managed the A-I-S Office (Address and Information Systems) before retiring from the Post Office in 1995. In retirement, Louie became a handy-man for many of his friends and family, and was happy to do so while asking for nothing in return. Louie also had a passion for golf and worked part-time in the pro-shop at Elmwood Golf Course in Sioux Falls. Louie had an extreme love for all of those he worked with and the golfers at Elmwood, G.C. Louis is survived by his two sons, Louis (Luke) and Janine Wilson of Omaha, NE and Jon and Colleen Wilson of Sioux Falls, and two sisters, Lois Jacobson (Houston, TX) and Arlis Coleman (San Francisco, CA) along with four grandchildren: Jordann, Adam, Teresa, Victoria, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Louis is preceded in death by his parents, Louis (1943) and Mabel (1991) and his sister Marion Swanson (Sioux City, IA) Flowers and memorials may be sent to the Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Visitation will be Thursday, 5 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a Scripture Vigil at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, 10:30 AM at Christ the King Church with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery
