Vincent J. Smyrak, 94, died Thursday August 9, 2007 at Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls. He was born on February 13, 1913 to Joseph and Mary Smyrak in St. Joseph, Missouri. On February 16, 1936 he was united in marriage to Ruth Carlton in Sioux Falls. He worked at John Morrell and Co. for many years, before retiring in 1975. Vincent was a member of the Local 304 and the Moose Lodge. He had a passion for bowling and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. He also volunteered for many years as an escort for Avera McKennan Hospital. He loved to share stories with anyone who would listen. Vincent was also a member of St. Michael Church. Vincent is survived by a son: Larry (Gloria), Sioux Falls; daughters: Lenore (Jim) Blasingame, Huntsville, AL, Karen (Jim) Walker, Mesa, AZ, Veronica (Joe) Elmore, Sioux Falls; sister: Margaret Case, Sioux Falls, 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruth, 1 brother and 2 sisters. Visitation will be Sunday, 6 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a Scripture Vigil at 7:30 PM followed by the Rosary. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, 10 AM at St. Michael Church.
