Donna Vay Thompson

Donna Vay Thompson, 82, passed away July 1, 2012 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Donna was born on January 4, 1930 to Mark and Lucy (Jones) Cushing in Whitewood, SD. She then moved to Spearfish, SD where she grew up. She was united in marriage to Dale A. Thompson from Belle Fourche, SD in 1948. They lived in Lead until they moved to Hurley, SD where they bought a farm. Job requirements allowed them to visit many places including: Iowa, New York, Michigan, North Dakota and Minnesota. They then retired back to the farm in Hurley. Donna worked in nursing most of her life and retired from Hilltop Nursing Home in Parker, SD in 1994.

Donna is survived by one daughter: Cynthia (Steve) Stratmeyer, a daughter-in-law, Denise A. Thompson; five grandchildren: Jamie and Lorraine Thompson, Sam Sarah and Erin Stratmeyer; and one great-grandson: Dale A. Thompson and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale A. Thompson, her son James D. Thompson, one granddaughter, Stephanie J. Stratmeyer, and one great-grandson, Jaret A. Thompson.

Visitation will be Monday, 5 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a Scripture Vigil at 7 PM. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, 10 AM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with burial to follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
