Wilda E. Schmidt

Wilda Schmidt, 89, died December 31, 2007 at Prince of Peace Retirement Community in Sioux Falls. Wilda was born on February 7, 1918 to Peter and Elizabeth (Cunningham) Dott near Bryant, SD. She moved with her family to Sioux Falls in 1934. Wilda attended and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1936. On June 17, 1939, she was united in marriage to D.M. "Bud" Schmidt at St. Joseph Cathedral in Sioux Falls. Wilda worked for Western Surety Bonding Company from 1936 to 1939. During WWII, she worked for the U.S. Postal Service for four years. She then was a secretary at her husbands' insurance company from 1958 until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the Altar Society. Wilda is survived by a son: Dennis (Clarice), Plymouth, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, D.M. Schmidt. Visitation will be Tuesday, 4 pm at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a Scripture Vigil at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, 2 pm at Christ the King Church. The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Banquet.
