Harold V. Engberg

Harold V. Engberg, 69, passed away May 4, 2008 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. He was born on October 4, 1938 to Howard and Matilda (Glass) Engberg in Vermillion, SD. Harold attended school and graduated from Beresford High School in 1956. Harold entered the Navy in 1956 and served for four years. He later attended and graduated from National College of Business in Rapid City. On October 16, 1962, he was united in marriage to Janice Stratmeyer. Harold worked for Northwestern Bell retiring in 1997 after 36 years. Harold taught computer skills at the Center for Active Generations from 2002 until 2008. Harold received the Volunteer of the Month Award from Avera McKennan in February of 2003. Harold was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus in Rapid City and the Vice President of the Communication Workers of America in Rapid City and Sioux Falls. Harold is survived by his wife: Janice; children: John Engberg, Greencastle, PA, Debbie (Tim) Johnson, Reno, NV, Chris (Sheri) Engberg, Harrisburg, SD, Lisa Kaplan, Sioux Falls, SD and Tim Engberg, Sioux Falls, SD; brothers: John, Sioux Falls, SD, Jim, Sioux Falls, SD and Bill, Pierre, SD, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 3 - 5 PM Wednesday at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home resuming at 6 PM at Christ the King Church with a Scripture Vigil at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, 10 AM at Christ the King Church with burial at Riverview Cemetery in Centerville.
