Gene L. Gundvaldson

Gene L. Gundvaldson, 80, passed away unexpectedly on August 3, 2008 in Pierre, South Dakota. He was born on December 8, 1927 to Gehard and Pauline (Erickson) Gundvaldson in Jasper, Minnesota. He moved to Sioux Falls in 1955 and on November 18, 1960, he was united in marriage to Ann Devlin in Sioux Falls. Gene was employed for 31 years by the Sioux Falls Stockyards until his retirement in 1989. He worked part-time at Sears for many years and most recently was employed by Olde English Building Maintenance. Gene enjoyed bowling, golfing and dancing. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge, the Knights of Columbus and the Local 304A. He was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church. Gene is survived by his son: Dennis (Evelyn), Worthing, SD; daughter: Kathleen (Douglas) Johansen, Worthing, SD; brother: Palmer (Cecilia), Silver Lake, MN; sister: Joann Carthel, Sioux Falls, SD; three grandchildren: Jacob, Kaitlin and Isaac Gundvaldson, and special friend: Irene Olson, Sioux Falls, SD. He was preceded in death by his wife and two brothers. Visitation will be Wednesday, 4 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a Scripture Vigil at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, 10 AM at St. Therese Catholic Church with burial to follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
