Eudean Stombaugh

Eudean I. Stombaugh, 81, passed peacefully into eternal life Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls with his family at his side. Eudean, the son of Irving and Emma (Schroeder) Stombaugh, was born July 3, 1927 in Flandreau, SD. He was baptized in Flandreau. Eudean graduated from Egan High School in 1946. He was employed in Flandreau at Palm Chevrolet. Eudean was united in marriage with Dorothy Boldt on July 29, 1950 at St. Mary's Church in Bryant, SD. Shortly afterwards he entered the Military Service with the 200th Army Engineers, first stationed at Fort Riley, KS, later to Colorado Springs, CO, and then to Fort Richardson near Anchorage, AK. After 23 months of active duty he was honorably discharged. Eudean and Dorothy made their home in Sioux Falls. He worked at Montgomery Wards for two years, then Gardner's Feed & Seed, and Sioux Falls Ford Tractor as a Parts Manager for 31 years. He also worked at Sheehan Equipment and later Wheelco before retiring in 1998. Eudean enjoyed family, camping, gardening and genealogy/scrapbooking. He was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral Church. Grateful for having shared his life are his sons: Thomas and Stephen, both of Sioux Falls, SD; daughters Rebecca Christianson, Sioux Falls, SD, and Patricia (Vincent) Klenda, Salina, KS; thirteen grandchildren, Elizabeth (David) Collier, Michael (Tami) Stombaugh, Bradley (Ausia) Stombaugh, Theresa Stombaugh, Sara (Charlie) Schoenfelder, Nathan, Rachel and Eric Christianson, Dean, Matthew, Emily, Carolyn and Patrick Klenda; eight great grandchildren, Hailee and Brayden Bomgaars, Seth and Ian Stombaugh, Landon and Alyssa Stombaugh, Rayna and Evan Schoenfelder; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Bunker, Arlington, SD, Myrtle Swenson, Watertown, SD; one brother-in-law, Donald Zasimowich, Dallas, TX; and several nieces and nephews. Eudean was preceded in death by his wife, (2007), of 56 years, his parents and his sister Vergean
