Sherwood "Woody" Norberg
12-26-2011

Sherwood M. "Woody" Norberg died Monday, December 26, 2011 at Avera Prince of Peace. Woody was born on June 6, 1922 to Julia and Melvin Norberg at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He attended Washington High School in Sioux Falls graduating in 1941. He enlisted in the Army in February 1942 and graduated from Officer Candidate School as 2nd Lt. in 1944. He was in the invasion of Europe landing on Omaha Beach on June 9th, 1944 and was wounded on June 22nd. After spending 18 months in military hospitals, he was honorably discharged as 1st Lt. in February 1946. Woody married Dolores M. Fischer on June 11, 1946. He was parts and sales manager for JD Evans Equipment, retiring in 1984. He was a longtime member of Saint Mary Catholic Church, most recently being a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Woody also was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion and DAV. Grateful for having shared his life are Dolores, his wife of 65 years, their seven children; Jeff (Terry Ann) Port Angeles, WA, John (Susan) Sioux Falls, SD, Joe (Anne), Alexandria, VA, Mary (John) Bingham, Yukon, OK, Nancy Heiberger, Sioux Falls, SD, Jane (Don) Wingert, Sioux Falls, SD and Jim (Nancy) of St. Louis, MO, along with 20 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, 6:00 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a Scripture Vigil and a Chaplet of Devine Mercy at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, 11:00 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery with Full Military Rites.
