Thomas James McMahon
Thomas James McMahon, 79, passed away September 23, 2013 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Thomas was born September 27, 1933 in Flandreau, SD to Eleanora and James McMahon. He received his education in Colman and Flandreau and graduated from Flandreau High School in 1951. Thomas was drafted in the Army when he was 18 and was stationed at White Sands, New Mexico. He married Eleanor Fox, his high school sweetheart on March 25, 1955 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He was a machinist at John Morrell for 37 years. He was on the board of directors at Morrell Federal Credit Union and a member of Elmwood Golf Club. He became a resident at the Veterans Administration Community Living Center on July 8, 2013 as a result of his battle with Parkinson’s disease for 30 years.
Thomas is survived by his wife: Eleanor; daughters: Julie Merry (Steve) of Sioux Falls and Barb (Scott) Pleus of Sugar Land, TX; three grandchildren: Sammy, Paige, and Catie; and one brother, Gary McMahon (Shirley) of Irving, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Correy Alan Pleus.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Our Savior’s Lutheran Building Fund or Day Break Adult Services.
Visitation with family present will be Friday, 5 - 7 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral home. Memorial Service will be Saturday, 11 AM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
