Celeste Susan Zimmermann

Celeste Zimmermann, 86, passed away September 24, 2008 At the Dougherty House Hospice in Sioux Falls. Celeste Susan Nieses was born in Miner County, SD, on April 30, 1922 to Andrew and Anna Marie (Kaiser) Nieses. She attended country school, graduating from St. Agatha High School in Howard, SD. During WWII, she worked in Washington, DC at the FBI Headquarters, and married Arthur Zimmermann on February 23, 1945. They settled in Sioux Falls, where she was an active member of St. Joseph Cathedral. Celeste served as head bailiff at the SF County Courthouse for many years, retired, and began volunteering at the Washington Pavilion. She enjoyed spending time in her yard, traveling, and especially spending time with family. Quick with a smile, a card or word of encouragement, Celeste was a blessing to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her 6 children: Mary Lee (Don) Mulloy; Tyler, MN; Jean Ann Hummel, New Prague, MN; Patrick Zimmermann (Linda) Casper, WY; James Zimmermann (Marilyn) Sioux Falls; Richard Zimmermann (Lindy) Sioux Falls; William Zimmermann (Susan ) Redmond WA; 5 siblings: Imogene Olsen CA, Lucille Gadbois (John) SD, Evelyn Berg (Vernon) SD; Harold Neises (Ursula) IL; Claire Neises (Lupe) CA; Marcy Ovrelid(Arthur) SD; 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and countless friends. Celeste was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Anna, husband Arthur, brothers James and Norbert, grandson Christopher, and son-in-law Ben Hummel. Visitation will be Sunday, 4 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a Scripture Vigil at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Cathedral with burial to follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
